It’s all about the brides…maids?

It is simply amazing how even the staunchest lady that visits our salon in Anstey turns into a blushing bride once a fairytale romantic ball gown is tried on. The customer  may well wish to have a fully fitted fishtail to show off her curves or a simple satin plain A line with a high neck & sleeves, but the second they feel the snug fit & beautiful fabric & start to swirl around the floor this evokes memories of being a small girl & wanting to become a princess! Of course they usually still order the gown they envisage themselves in, however just that once they can feel carefree & there’s that ‘little’ bit of us that has that fairytale dream ….it must be inbuilt in us somewhere, no matter what our age! Last week a lovely bride came in & knew exactly the gown she wanted to wear, a fitted slipper satin slinky gown with lace see through side panels which are all the rage right now (you do have to be a size 12 max and be very confident to pull this one off I might add). Luckily she was stunning & it did look great on her. However, her grandmother pushed her into trying on a new ball gown style with a diamanté bodice & guess what? She then couldn’t make her mind up at all between the two!!! So I guess the earlier statement must have some truth in it.. The most popular season of course for weddings is the Summer and for 2017 think glamour, copper, gold, sequins and lace.  Also think BOHO &... read more

Busy Little Brides!

July has been the busiest month on record for many years, as couples tie the proverbial knot. Vintage weddings are still big news however, the more traditional church wedding is making a come back, away from the civil ceremonies at many hotels and licensed venues. Bridal really can be anything you wish it to be however, on the catwalks, hues of pale blush and light golds over ivory are in most designers collections. All over lace is simply everywhere.. with straps, full sleeves and low, low sexy backs or filled in backs with lace embellished modesty panels!  High necklines through to strapless tight fishtails are still best sellers and the corset is and will always give any bride that so desired shape. Many gowns are becoming increasingly beaded all over , simply draped over the body together with an underslip, in sheer satin or silk. The actual beaded overdress looks so comfortable over the top and clings to all the right places whilst swirling around the legs. Amazing!! Some  of my favourites are JADE, MELANIE, ETTIA and SAVANAH MARIE to name but a few..   Oooh, but now onto the ball gowns. They are becoming sooo fairytale like and full, without any ‘meringues’ in sight!  Sparkly tulle, cinched in waists and fitted bodices.Take a look at EDDY K 77966 or DISNEY TIANA  for good examples. Petite girls gain shape and fuller girls hide the bits they don’t usually like. Many brides don’t even think to try these on….please please do! You never know, you might surprise yourself, at how truly beautiful you feel in this shape of gown.. Suz... read more

Eddy K/Milan trip Susanne and Jo’s trip to Milano!

Susanne and Jo’s trip to Milano!   Well we both set off last Thursday for our usual adventure to Italy and after a leisurely evening at the bar we were up bright and early to have our first taste of next seasons Italian bridal wear. Stunning ball gowns with sweetheart or straighter necklines, embellished with crystals, diamanté  or lace. Clinched in waists and full skirts made with floaty tulle, organza or chiffon were key pieces, so the fuller gown is definitely coming in for 2016/17 weddings. However the straighter fit and flare and fishtails now have incredibly adorned back features either filled in or very low with lots of new kinds of lace that we’d never seen before. Clearly Eddy K had been sourcing amazing new materials and fabrics for this collection! During Friday afternoon we all decided to head down to the main Expo to see the other designers and were enthralled to view incredible gowns from the worlds leading fashion houses but unfortunately price ranges were totally out for our beautiful Leicestershire salon, with prices around £5000 for an average gown! We made ourselves feel better with a great fun dinner out, with other bridal shops from around the country, to share all the  latest gossip. Jo and I decided to get up early and thought we’d be the first to eat breakfast, then sneak our jackets on the front row of the fashion show to save our seats , before heading to our room to get ready for the day. Ha Ha…we sat there when we realised we had forgotten to put our clocks forward and... read more

Summer Update

The wedding season has been so busy this year with July topping our list for the most popular month so far. However if any discounts on venues are sought after , future brides should look at November and mid January to late February as some amazing savings can be made when the popular choices for weddings or receptions are generally not as sought after. The weather all year can be so up and down in the UK but during these months it’s a must that you can be comfortable with full length lace sleeves and any lovely cape or bolero jacket. I went to a friend’s wedding in mid January this year and it was so fantastic to look forward to a special event and get all dressed up in what is usually a really long dark month of the year after all the Xmas hype is over. One of the key trends coming through for the period ahead is the use of contrasting fabrics which will take us through the ordering season up to December 2015. Lots of satin skirts with clinched waists and beautiful lace bodices whilst on other gowns lace sleeves with striking tulle fishtails. Colour once again is making news with a glimpse of pinky blush tones, champagne and latte alongside the traditional ivory. There are still many slinky silk gowns around with cowl backs draped with crystals to add a touch of that Hollywood glamour and body skimming styles are still some of our most popular choices for today’s modern confident bride. Let’s not forget lots of young ladies still dream of that fairytale... read more
